Athea Javed has hand-crafted personalised tasbeehs — Islamic prayer beads — for over twenty years. In that time she built a loyal customer base entirely through Etsy and eBay. Steady orders, but always on someone else’s terms.
Those platforms brought reach, but also per-sale fees, listing charges, and templates that gave her little say over how her brand looked or how her products were shown. She wanted a home of her own: a platform where she set the rules, kept more of every sale, and wasn’t fighting for attention inside someone else’s storefront.
Bigger Picture Digital built that platform — a custom Next.js front end with Shopify powering the product catalogue, and visual direction that finally shows her craft the way it deserves.

Athea had sold handmade tasbeehs on Etsy and eBay for over twenty years, building a loyal customer base from scratch. But those platforms came at a cost — per-sale fees, listing charges, and rigid templates that left her with almost no control over how her brand looked or how her products were presented. She was building her business inside someone else's storefront.

Without her own site, Athea had no way to step out of the marketplace model. Every sale meant handing a cut to Etsy or eBay, and every product page looked like every other seller on the platform. She needed somewhere that was fully hers — designed around her work, not a template designed to look like everyone else's.

Our Approach

Rather than restyling a marketplace template or dropping her products into an off-the-shelf theme, we built Athea's site from scratch. The brief was a site that looked nothing like a generic Etsy shop — modern, clean, and clearly distinct from competitors. That meant a custom Next.js front end with full control over design, speed, and feel.

Athea knows her products better than anyone — the materials, the personalisation options, the details that matter to her customers. Our job was everything else: site design, build, Shopify integration, and the visual direction that made her craft look the part. She owns the products. We built the platform.

A site Athea couldn't update herself would just create a new dependency. So product management runs entirely on Shopify — she can add, edit, or remove listings without touching code or waiting on us. The whole point of leaving the marketplaces was independence, and that principle ran through every build decision.

The build ran in three parts — visual direction, front-end development, and product management setup. Each one had a specific job, and together they gave Athea a site that looks like her brand, performs at speed, and she can run entirely herself.
